Canvey Island Dutch House Museum
is one of the most well-kept secrets of the island. The grade II listed property was built in 1618 and is now a museum managed by the Benfleet and District Historical Society on behalf of Castle Point Borough Council. Canvey Island actually has two of these tiny, hectagonal Dutch houses, however the other one, despite nearly approaching its 400th year, remains in private ownership. Thorney Bay Beach

Take a train from London Fenchurch Street to Benfleet then take the 22 or 27 bus from Benfleet Station over to Canvey. It will take around 45 minutes to an hour to travel from London to Canvey Island.

On average it will take around 45 minutes to travel from Southend Central to Canvey Island by train. You can take a c2c train from Southend Central to Benfleet then take the 22 or 27 bus from there.
How to get around Canvey Island
Canvey Island to Lobster Smack
The fastest route to Lobster Smack is via Haven Road, which is only 1.8 miles away from Canvey Island. Start by heading east on Essex Cl toward Craven Avenue. Turn right onto Thorney Bay Road. At the roundabout, take the first exit onto Long Road/A130. Turn left onto Haven Road and turn left. You will find Lobster Smack on the left side of the road. It will take you around 5 minutes to reach Lobster Smack via this route.
Lobster Smack to The Labworth Café
From Lobster Smack, turn east on Haven Road toward Haven Quays. Turn right onto Long Road/A130. Then, at the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Thorney Bay Road. Turn left onto Leigh Road then turn right onto Furtherwick Road. At the roundabout, take the 1st exist and stay on Furtherwick Road. The distance between Lobster Smack and Labworth Café is 2.5 miles and has an average journey time of 7 minutes.
Labworth Café to Windjammer
Labworth Café and Windjammer are relatively close to each other. It has a walking distance of about 0.2 miles and will only take a minute to reach by car. You will find the fun park Fantasy Island situated between Labworth Cafe and Windjammer.
Windjammer to Thorney Bay Beach

Thorney Bay Beach to Canvey Island Dutch House Museum
From Thorney Bay Beach, head northwest on Western Esplanade toward Leigh Road. Continue onto Thorney Bay Road. Then, at the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Long Road/A130. Later, take the 2nd exit onto Northwick Road. Take a right turn and you will find the Canvey Island Dutch Home Museum on the left. It will take about 5 minutes to complete this 1.8-mile-long route.
